After some early training exercises, the
firefighters could step back and watch the blaze. |
The firefighters
entered the house several times before the fire was allowed to spread.

The fire was exciting, but the parsonage
had been a part of church life for many years. So the moment was
bittersweet for many of those who watched. |

Once the fire got
going, the firefighters kept an eye on things.
Sometimes they
fought to control the blaze.

it burn.
Firefighters strapped on fifty pounds or
more of equipment and safety clothing, which made the work hot and
cumbersome. For this fire, since it was not an emergency, they could at
least stop and rest a while.

There is a time to tear down and a time to
build.
